SYNOPSIS

Made up of 13 sections, each a long take that tells a story about the distance between different times and spaces, Distant focuses on the subtle moments when contemporary Chinese people are suddenly confronted with modernity, finding themselves lost in transition and persisting with their lonely lives in a rapidly industrializing landscape, with no control over their destinies or culture. Without any dialogue, these 13 dramatic, realistic, or mysterious scenes are crafted to portray today's human condition in an abstract way — its alienation, abandonment, and eternal loneliness.
